Important upcoming events for 8th grade students and their families:
- Open House Night @ SHS for Riverside 8th Graders will begin at 6:00pm on February 25th (with a snowdate of March 4th). Don't miss this opportunity to visit the high school with your parents and classmates and hear about the different classes that are offered at SHS.
- Counselors and teachers from SHS will visit RMS on March 3rd to meet with 8th graders in small groups to discuss their scheduling options for next year and answer questions.
- Trustworthy Transitions meetings will take place every other Tuesday right after school in Ms. Gasco's classroom. 8th graders will meet with high school students to ask questions and discuss what to expect as well as ways to prepare themselves for high school. Meetings will be held on the following dates: February 23rd, March 9th, March 23rd, April 6th, April 27th, May 11th and May 25th.
A note from Mrs. Farnsworth:
As the new school counselor at Riverside, I am really looking forward to getting to know and work with our students and their families. Some of the things that I will be working on this year include:
*teaching classroom guidance lessons and helping with the transition to middle school for the incoming 6th graders
*offering developmental guidance groups for students in grades 6-8, in which students have an opportunity to discuss important issues affecting their lives in a small group setting
*providing short term counseling and support regarding any issues that affect the success and social well being of our students
*aiding in the transition to high school for our 8th graders
Additionally, I am the 504 Coordinator for RMS and a co-advisor for Student Council.
Middle School is such an exciting time full of growth, change and often challenges. My goal is to help our students to manage these changes and challenges in order to help them to grow in positive and healthy ways.
