On Wednesday Nov 5th, 8 RMS students from 8th grade and 5th grade attended the OVX Youth Leadership Summit in Burlington, VT. OVX stands for Our Voices Exposed and is all about empowering Vermont youth to lead the way in tobacco prevention – making each voice heard.
OVX focuses on strengths and helps youth in grades 5-12, build the skills they need to become leaders. With support from adult advisors and community partners, OVX members educate school peers, community members, and local state decision makers about how tobacco and vape companies try to target (and hook) young people.
At the youth summit on Nov 5th, we joined with students from many other Vermont schools and had the opportunity to listen to motivational speakers from Vive18, we mingled and played community building games with other schools, and we all learned tips on how to create inspirational and influential videos of our own to better reach peers and share our message of healthy life choices.
